How the MOB whacked Legends Of Rock

Another small gig was concluded at the Legends Of Rock out here in Koramangala. This was a part of the Tuesday Rock live shows at LOR. And this time it was the Ministry Of Blues!

We scampered out at 7:30 PM and with the doggone Koramangala traffic reached at 8:20 PM. When we entered, we found the MOB at the corner couch doing what Sarat (bass, MOB) described as "Strong 7-Up"...Philipe (guitar/vox) on the side doing
> his usual chromatic, sweep, arpeggio warm-ups...Rauf intently watching the videos that were been shown on those big screens before the concert and contemplating alternate versions (both scales and time) on his mock-hammond they call a table...Sarat and DK (drums) speaking with a friend. Then after a brief photo session, they resumed discussion. Another surprise...half the Galeej Gurus...them twins (Drum & Bass) from the Gurus were on the table next to us...asked them about the next Galeej concert...no idea when...

Around 8:30, amidst growls and whistles, they headed toward the snug-fit "stage" of LOR...way too small...Sarat was more apart of the crowd than band!

Opening their hand-picked set, we were subjected to Hendrix, Mayall, Doobie Brothers, Floyd, Purple, Robben Ford and ah yes, Stevie Ray!!

One thing I have been noticing over the past couple of concerts, is the bands' strife with playing homegrown music (or forthat matter, stuff *they* like), because the junta still wants *their* music to be played. Satchit and I had this discussion a couple of days back. I greatly support covers (I play with a
tribute band!), but at the same time support bands that want to do original> music and stuff they like. I saw this happen (again!!) at LOR..."Guns 'n Roses", someone screamed. "Play Metallica, yeah!!" came a growl. Maiden!! Maiden!!" was a din. Each of these demands made contortions on Philipe's smiling face and he repeatedly announced themselves as the Ministry Of BLUES!!
The old fogies were digging it big time though! Rapturous response upon the announcement of "Mustang Sally". The chorus in unison.."Ride Sally ride!"

Then another surprise..."Comfortably Numb"!! Great job too!! Rauf took vox...solo at the end...pretty much verbatim...

Then a SRV..."Mary had a little lamb" came through on the PA...suprising thing was that by now, the crowd was on its feet...possibly an after-effect of Numb.

Had to cut early...out at 10:15...then dinner...home...sleep...
